ATN & JHU AYA REACH
The Johns Hopkins University Adolescent Young Adult Research, Equity, for Adolescent Care and HIV (JHU AYA REACH) is home to an array of research programs including the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV Interventions (ATN).
The ATN’s mission is to improve the quality of life and health of adolescents and young adults across the HIV prevention and care continuum through transformative research, education, and advocacy. We conduct different kinds of research studies related to HIV prevention and HIV care for young people between 13 and 24 years old.

Current & Upcoming Research Studies
ATN 164: S2P
Screen to Prevent
S2P takes place in pediatric Emergency Departments (ED), and the main goal is to increase HIV screening rates among youth and find out the best way to do so.
Who can participate?
Ages 14-24
Cisgender women
Sexual minority men
Transgender and gender diverse people
Why is this study important?
We hope S2P will be an important step towards more young people getting tested for HIV and started on PrEP or HIV treatment, if needed, in the ED - which is the only place many teens get healthcare.
ATN 165: LYPS
Linking Youth to PrEP Services
The LYPS study aims to improve PrEP use among young transgender women and gay, bisexual and other sexual minority men. The LYPS intervention combines the use of a Community Health Provider to deliver PrEP services at a location a participant chooses outside the clinic with a smartphone-based app to support PrEP use between services. This study will test whether this way of getting PrEP helps more young people take their PrEP successfully to improve their sexual health and reduce their likelihood for HIV.
Who can participate?
Ages 13-24
Sexual minority men
Transgender women
Participants must be on PrEP or PrEP eligible
English and Spanish speakers
ATN 168: HAPPY
Multipurpose Technology for HIV and Pregnancy Prevention
HAPPY is examining the values and preferences for a long-acting, multi-purpose prevention product that would prevent HIV and pregnancy in cisgender women, transgender men, and gender diverse individuals assigned female at birth. Long-acting products may have an advantage over other products, particularly in young people because they are convenient, discreet and don’t require daily use to be effective.
Who can participate?
Ages 15-24
Cisgender women
Transgender and gender diverse people who could potentially bear children
